Hooked On You is a nice start to a small town series。 I liked seeing these two characters, who both crushed on each other in high school, actually have a chance at a real relationship now that they were adults。 That being said, Riley did not make anything easy in this story! It was clear from the beginning that Riley had huge self esteem issues。 She felt unworthy of love and expected to get hurt by anyone she got close to, so she kept herself separate emotionally from people。 However, Hayden bega Hooked On You is a nice start to a small town series。 I liked seeing these two characters, who both crushed on each other in high school, actually have a chance at a real relationship now that they were adults。 That being said, Riley did not make anything easy in this story! It was clear from the beginning that Riley had huge self esteem issues。 She felt unworthy of love and expected to get hurt by anyone she got close to, so she kept herself separate emotionally from people。 However, Hayden began to break down those walls and Riley began to fall for him。It was hard watching Riley seemingly sabotage any progress she and Hayden made because of her fear of getting too close。 I was happy with the way things wrapped up in this story, however, if this were real life, marriage counseling to help Riley learn how to trust and openly communicate with Hayden would be a necessity。This book introduced a fun community of characters and I look forward to reading future books in this series。I received a complimentary copy of this book。 All opinions are my own。This review will post on my blog on 5/20/21。 。。。more

Hooked On You by Kathleen Fuller is the first A Maple Falls Romance。 I have mixed feelings about this book。 I enjoyed the descriptions of the mixed media art, Maple Falls, and the grandmother’s yarn shop。 I loved Erma McAllister, Riley’s grandmother。 She is a lively character with a big heart。 I hope I am as spirited as Erma when get to be her age。 I also enjoyed Erma’s group of friends called the Bosom Buddies。 I am not a fan of Riley McAllister with her numerous issues。 I found her to be overl Hooked On You by Kathleen Fuller is the first A Maple Falls Romance。 I have mixed feelings about this book。 I enjoyed the descriptions of the mixed media art, Maple Falls, and the grandmother’s yarn shop。 I loved Erma McAllister, Riley’s grandmother。 She is a lively character with a big heart。 I hope I am as spirited as Erma when get to be her age。 I also enjoyed Erma’s group of friends called the Bosom Buddies。 I am not a fan of Riley McAllister with her numerous issues。 I found her to be overly dramatic especially later in the book in a scene with Erma。 Reading about Riley and her various troubles just made me anxious。 I like to become immersed in books (relax and enjoy), but I was unable to with Hooked On You。 There is limited character development。 We learn more about the main characters as the story progresses in a piecemeal fashion。 The story moves at a slower pace until the ending which felt rushed。 I also thought the dialogue was awkward (stilted)。 Personally, I feel that Maple Falls with Erma (as an amateur sleuth) and the Bosom Buddies (helping her investigate the crimes) would make the great basis for a cozy mystery series。 Hooked on You was not a good fit for me。 I was not able to get into the story。 I ended up skimming parts of the book until I reached the end。 I suggest you obtain a sample of Hooked On You to see if it is a book that you would enjoy。 Different books appeal to different people (that is their beauty)。 Hooked On You is a lighthearted Christian romance about finding love, family, friendships, and forgiveness。 。。。more

I have been a fan of author Kathleen Fuller for many years。 I was excited to learn of her book, Hooked on You, which is Book 1 in the Maple Falls series。 Riley McAllister has made a life for herself in New York City, as she has lived there for about 10 yrs。 Living in New York was a change for her, as she is from a Small Town, Maple Falls。 She doesn't foresee herself returning to Maple Falls。 That changes when her Grandma breaks her leg and is in need of someone to assist her。 Riley returns to Ma I have been a fan of author Kathleen Fuller for many years。 I was excited to learn of her book, Hooked on You, which is Book 1 in the Maple Falls series。 Riley McAllister has made a life for herself in New York City, as she has lived there for about 10 yrs。 Living in New York was a change for her, as she is from a Small Town, Maple Falls。 She doesn't foresee herself returning to Maple Falls。 That changes when her Grandma breaks her leg and is in need of someone to assist her。 Riley returns to Maple Falls to run her Grandma's Yarn store and look after Grandma as she recovers。 Hayden Price, a high school friend of Riley's, has also recently returned to Maple Falls。 He was a Baseball Player, but was injured and can no longer play Baseball。 He is now working at his Dad's Hardware Store in town。 Hayden and others in town reach out to Riley, but she doesn't want to befriend to many as her plan is to return to New York in the future。 Riley finally has a breakthrough and starts friendships in Maple Falls, including with Hayden。 Hayden knows Maple Falls is HOME for him。 Will Hayden convince Riley to stay in Maple Falls? Is she ready to finally open up to someone else and learn to trust again?Thoughts: If you're looking for a multi-faceted PG-13 romance, this one's for you! What it's lacking in your typical lust-filled romance it makes up for in character depth and storyline drama。 This is more love story than actual romance, but there's still plenty of chemistry between the two main characters。 And each has a significant amount of character development throughout the story。 While I wasn't necessarily swooning over this couple, I liked both main characters and found myself empathizing with both as they figured out how to navigate their own difficulties and how they could grow together。 。。。more

Hooked on You by Kathleen Fuller is a wonderful novel about family, healing and love。After high school, Riley McAllister left Maple Falls, AR to move to New York with high hopes of taking the art world by storm。  Ten years later, she has not had her big break but she is not giving up on her dream。 But when her feisty, beloved Mimi breaks her leg and needs her help, Riley hops on the next plane back to her small home town。 The last person she expects to pick her from the airport is her teenage cr Hooked on You by Kathleen Fuller is a wonderful novel about family, healing and love。After high school, Riley McAllister left Maple Falls, AR to move to New York with high hopes of taking the art world by storm。  Ten years later, she has not had her big break but she is not giving up on her dream。 But when her feisty, beloved Mimi breaks her leg and needs her help, Riley hops on the next plane back to her small home town。 The last person she expects to pick her from the airport is her teenage crush Hayden Price。 He also left town but after an injury put an end to his major baseball career, Hayden returned to Maple Falls。 He is working in his family’s hardware business and coaching the church softball team。 Riley is still drawn to Hayden, but will she overcome her fears and explore the possibility of a relationship? And will she give up the Big Apple for small town life?Riley’s life as a child with her mother was incredibly chaotic。 Even after moving in with Mimi as a teenager, Riley found it difficult to let herself make friends。 She is close to Mimi and she loves her grandmother’s friends, but she struggles with accepting offers of friendship with women her age。  Riley is also extremely guarded and finds it hard to allow Hayden into her life。 But as they agree to just be friends, Riley is surprised when she relaxes enough to allow their feelings blossom into a tentative romance。 But how will she react when she must face her past?Hayden was also interested in Riley when they were teenagers。 But he did not have the time for a romance since he was single-mindedly focused on pursuing his baseball dream。 His years of hard work paid off only to be dashed by a career ending injury。 Putting his disappointment behind him, Hayden is rebuilding his life in Maple Falls。 Hayden still feels a spark between him and Riley and he knows he will have to tread very carefully with her。 He does not know much about her life before moving with his grandmother, but he has no trouble reading Riley’s “keep away”。 Hayden is willing to take as much time and patience as he needs to nurture his fledgling romance with Riley。 But will his own baggage get in the way of their burgeoning romance?Hooked on You is a very enjoyable novel with a charming cast of characters。 Despite the passage of time, Riley’s dysfunctional past prevents her from getting close to anyone。 Hayden recognizes how wounded she is but he does have a few issues of his own。 Their relationship unfolds gradually over time, but Riley pulls away whenever she feels emotionally threatened。 Maple Falls residents are absolutely delightful but the town itself is in need of some TLC。 This first installment is a sweet introduction to Kathleen Fuller’s Maple Falls series that readers are going to absolutely love。 。。。more

This book has many elements of a sweet, old-fashioned romance: a boy and girl who had admired each other from afar in high school, a second chance, a small town with a-bit-tarnished southern charm, the requisite quirky characters, and difficulties to get past。 The pace of the story was a little slow, and some of the descriptions a little cliché。 Overall it was an okay read for someone looking for a quick read that doesn't get too deep into the reader's head。I am grateful to have received a compl This book has many elements of a sweet, old-fashioned romance: a boy and girl who had admired each other from afar in high school, a second chance, a small town with a-bit-tarnished southern charm, the requisite quirky characters, and difficulties to get past。 The pace of the story was a little slow, and some of the descriptions a little cliché。 Overall it was an okay read for someone looking for a quick read that doesn't get too deep into the reader's head。I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy from Thomas Nelson via NetGalley without obligation。 All opinions expressed here are my own。 。。。more

Plot: ☆☆☆☆ I loved that this was not your typical “Hallmark” move-back-to-hometown-fall-in-love-with-high-school-crush story。 The plot had multiple elements and major side plots that made the story interesting to the very end。 And while everyone hopes for the carefully knit (get it?) happily ever after, the resolution to this story came with hiccups that felt realistic and relatable。 Writing Style: ☆☆☆☆☆ Kathleen’s writing kept me hooked (I can’t stop with these puns!) throughout the book; in fact, I read the whole thing in one day! I loved her shifts in viewpoints between characters。 Every time I found myself thinking, “Wow, I wish I knew what this character was thinking right now” she would switch to that character; it was so satisfying! Content Warning: Although this book contains PG level romance that would be appropriate for any audience, it does contain references to previous child neglect, abandonment, emotional manipulation and drug abuse that could possibly be triggers for those sensitive to those topics。This was the first book I have read by this author, and I definitely look forward to reading more stories written by her。Thank you to Thomas Nelson for sending me an Advance Reading Copy in exchange for an honest review。 All opinions expressed in this review are real and solely my own。 。。。more

Hooked on Youby Kathleen FullerBook 1 in the Maple Falls seriesRating: 4/5I don't remember if I've ever read anything from Kathleen Fuller before, but I loved the description of the book and couldn't help myself。 I was excited to be chosen to receive an ARC of the book and I was NOT disappointed。 The book is everything you'd want in a sweet romance。Riley McAllister's life on Instagram is very different than her actual life as a struggling mixed media artist who has to be a part-time delivery dri Hooked on Youby Kathleen FullerBook 1 in the Maple Falls seriesRating: 4/5I don't remember if I've ever read anything from Kathleen Fuller before, but I loved the description of the book and couldn't help myself。 I was excited to be chosen to receive an ARC of the book and I was NOT disappointed。 The book is everything you'd want in a sweet romance。Riley McAllister's life on Instagram is very different than her actual life as a struggling mixed media artist who has to be a part-time delivery driver in New York City。 She is determined to not return to her small hometown of Maple Falls, but when her grandmother, "Mimi", breaks her leg, Riley comes home to help take care of her and the yarn store。 Coming home after almost 10 years is not easy for Riley who has always felt like an outsider due to her tumultuous past, but seeing Hayden Price again might make it worth it。 Hayden Price, the golden boy of Maple Falls who made it to the major leagues only to hurt himself during the first game, is content to help run his parents' hardware store。 Can Riley help her grandmother's store and home without the help of Hayden Price? Probably not but being around him so much might cause her heart to beat out of her chest。 Can Riley learn to trust Hayden and open up her heart to her secret high school crush? When secrets are revealed, can Riley learn to forgive and let go of the past? This book was a nice, sweet romance between two very different people。 I liked Riley's character because she had to deal with her very real, tragic circumstances and learn to overcome them。 Hayden's rise to fame and then quick fall affected him a lot but I loved how he was able to heal with the help of therapy and time。 This story is definitely a light read with a couple more serious parts that just make the characters more authentic。 I feel this book is more on the inspirational side of Christian fiction and does not get in your face about the Bible。Highly recommend if you enjoy clean, sweet romance with a lot of heart and yarn! ;)My thanks to the author and publisher for providing me with an ARC of the book。 All opinions expressed here are entirely my own。 No positive review was expected and no compensation received。 。。。more

Enjoyable introduction to a new to me author。 Loved the community that was created。 The Bosom Buddies and Three Musketeers are ladies I’d love to have in my corner。 Spunky Mimi was my favorite character。 Hayden and Riley’s relationship development felt natural。 Loved watching them find each other and their place in life。 I looking forward to another visit to Maple Falls。I voluntarily reviewed an ARC received via NetGalley。

Riley had an awful childhood and not even spending her teens with a loving grandmother in a charming small town was enough to get her to open up to people。 When she has to leave New York and her hermit artist living to go back and take care of her grandmother while she recuperates from a broken leg, she swears it's only a quick trip。 But what she finds is that the little town of Maple Falls is full of love just waiting for her to open up to it。 There are fun characters, tension-filled moments be Riley had an awful childhood and not even spending her teens with a loving grandmother in a charming small town was enough to get her to open up to people。 When she has to leave New York and her hermit artist living to go back and take care of her grandmother while she recuperates from a broken leg, she swears it's only a quick trip。 But what she finds is that the little town of Maple Falls is full of love just waiting for her to open up to it。 There are fun characters, tension-filled moments between the two romantic leads, the mandatory misunderstanding that drives them apart, and a bit too much melodrama for me。 But while I found the individual pieces interesting, I'm sorry to say that the sum of all the parts left me somewhat unimpressed。 It's not a bad book。 The writing is okay。 I've just read pretty much the same story before and this one didn't add anything new to make it stand out。Many thanks to NetGalley and Thomas Nelson for the early read! 。。。more

If you enjoy small town romance, quirky characters, and a leisurely paced story you may want to check this one out。This book drew me in at the beginning, I enjoyed Erma's sweet attempt at matchmaking in the beginning。 For me though I didn't ever become deeply invested in the story, I felt like the heroine was overdramatic at times。The writing was fine, it was just a slower paced book then what I usually like。I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher。 All opinions a If you enjoy small town romance, quirky characters, and a leisurely paced story you may want to check this one out。This book drew me in at the beginning, I enjoyed Erma's sweet attempt at matchmaking in the beginning。 For me though I didn't ever become deeply invested in the story, I felt like the heroine was overdramatic at times。The writing was fine, it was just a slower paced book then what I usually like。I was provided with a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher。 All opinions are honest and completely my own。 。。。more

Book 1 in the Maple Falls Romance series, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Book 2。 Hooked on You is not only heartwarming, but it’s a story of family and forgiveness。 Of moving forward even when life throws you a curve or two。Strong lovable characters, Riley and Hayden learn a lot about life and each other。 And Mimi is so much fun and even mischievous。 But she loves Riley dearly and only wants the best for her。The setting of Maple Falls made me nostalgic and I could imagine wanderin Book 1 in the Maple Falls Romance series, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to Book 2。 Hooked on You is not only heartwarming, but it’s a story of family and forgiveness。 Of moving forward even when life throws you a curve or two。Strong lovable characters, Riley and Hayden learn a lot about life and each other。 And Mimi is so much fun and even mischievous。 But she loves Riley dearly and only wants the best for her。The setting of Maple Falls made me nostalgic and I could imagine wandering main street, looking in the shop windows。 If you enjoy contemporary stories, then grab a copy and go window shopping with me。 You’ll be glad you did。I received a complimentary copy of this book but was not required to leave a review。 。。。more
